A new building design criteria for Rawalpindi and Islamabad is being prepared by Nespak for construction of earthquake-resistant buildings.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Thursday directed the ministry of housing and works to expedite the process after assessment of criterion by technical experts and it was likely to be announced by next month.

The Prime Minister, during a presentation on goals and targets by the ministry, asked them to complete formalities within the stipulated period.

The Prime Minister also advised the ministry to expedite work on the training academy where people can be trained in construction-related trades. He directed development work in G-13 and G-14 sectors should be completed within the specified time frame.

The Prime Minister emphasised the need to provide low-cost housing to low- and middle-income groups at affordable prices on ownership basis through public-private partnership.
